Happy Monday

Are your Mondays like my Mondays? Don't get me wrong. I worked nights for 7 years and I still doubt my body has recovered from the bashing my circadian rhythm took during that time. I now relish the sleeping in my bed a night. Nevertheless, the M-F routine has its drawbacks as well. The idea that you have to take care of everything in your life during the two-day weekend is no joy. In addition to the household chores (cleaning, groceries, laundry, etc.) there are the family obligations that are priceless and time consuming. You feel guilty if you do not partake, but a small part of you wants to indulge in some self-centered pleasure: sleep, a movie, a magazine.

As though all of that is not bad enough, the prospect of Monday begins to loom over me midday on Sunday, putting a damper on the rest of the weekend.

Maybe its not the weekly pattern. Maybe it's the job I'm waking up to on Monday morning. Maybe its time to give up the convenience of working so close to home and school, and force myself to make a move. Challenge myself to be new again with the unfamiliar. Maybe, just maybe, Mondays may hold excitement, anticipation, and the possibility of curiosity fulfilled.

Maybe there really are Happy Mondays for us after all!
